The town of Lanark is situated within the beautiful South Lanarkshire countryside and steeped in history. It was granted Royal Burgh status by King David I in 1140 and has a rich heritage spread throughout the years. It has had several historic figures over time such as Robert Owen, the important social reformer at New Lanark Mills, now one of Scotland’s six UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty with the Falls of Clyde drawing visitors from far and wide.

Another historic figure with strong ties to the town is Sir William Wallace, the famous Scottish freedom fighter who first drew sword in the town in 1297.

Currently with a population of around 9,000 it has a vibrant community with a mix of wonderful retail outlets throughout the town. Schooling is provided by four Primary schools and one High School. With sporting pursuits in mind, it is home to the 25th oldest Golf Course in the world and boasts many other sporting clubs throughout the town. It also has a leisure centre with gymnasium and swimming pool.

Lanark is ideally situated within an hour’s commute of both Scotland’s largest cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh. With a direct rail link to Glasgow. It offers residents a taste of rural living whilst providing excellent commuting links across central Scotland and beyond.
